One of the first radio orchestras in Europe, established in 1923, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra has chosen to present a dignified program in the best European festival traditions at the "Varna Summer". The orchestra’s history is steeped in the memories of Paul Hindemith, Arthur Honegger, Darius Milhaud, Sergei Prokofiev, Richard Strauss, Schoenberg and Stravinsky – all of whom have stood at the lectern as guest conductors. Since 2017, Vladimir Jurowski has been at the helm of the orchestra, with whom the institution celebrated its 100th anniversary season. A third-generation musician, Jurowski studied in Moscow, Dresden and Berlin; his debut on the big stage was in 1995 at the Wexford Festival and at Covent Garden. He has been Music Director of the Glyndebourne Opera Festival and Principal Conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO). Since 2021, he has been Music Director of the Bavarian State Opera alongside the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra. The Second Symphony of Brahms, whom Schumann defines as the "heir of Beethoven", is his most radiantly happy work, written during a vacation in the picturesque Alps, in which Brahms "paints" as if with the colors of the orchestra in its full splendor. Julia Fischer has everything in her biography - first prizes from competitions such as "Yehudi Menuhin" in 1995, concerts with conductors of the rank of Riccardo Muti, Christian Thielemann, Ivan Fischer, Michael Tilson-Thomas, Vasily Petrenko; performances with the largest orchestras in Vienna, Berlin, Dresden, Amsterdam, New York, Chicago, Cleveland; she played at the Nobel Prize ceremony; in 2024 she made a joint tour with Saint-Martin-in-the Fields; she has her own quartet, she also created a children's orchestra; and at one of her concerts she performed the Saint-Saëns violin concerto in the first part, and Grieg's piano concerto in the second. She will present to the audience in Varna one of the most significant violin concerts in musical history – Beethoven’s. Julia Fischer has been playing the violin Giovanni Battista Guadagnini since 1742.
