Monument to Stefan Karadzha

A symbol of united Bulgaria is the bust-monument to the great revolutionary Stefan Karadzha (by the sculptor Cyril Todorov), inaugurated on Nov. 10, 1940. It is to be found in the downtown area, at the point where two of Varna's thoroughfares, the Prince Boris I and the Slivnitsa, intercept. Its erec¬tion was suggested by the Varna-based Dobroudzha Women's Culture-and-Education Charity Organization.
Stefan Karadja or Stefan Todorov Dimov was born on May 11, 1840 in the village Ichme - Stefan Karadjovo today. It is famous for his revolutionary work, a participant in the Bulgarian national liberation movement. Along with Hadji Dimitar and led a band of 129 people on July 6, 1868 passed the Danube. In the paint in the area Kanladere nearby Vishovgrad Stefan Karadja is badly wounded and captured. On July 31, 1868 was hanged.
