Karantinata Fishermen’s Village, Asparuhovo Beach
Quarantine International Film Festival is held annually next to the fishermen’s village Karantinata Fishermen’s Village. The name of the area “Karantinata” comes from the history of Varna and the isolation of arriving crews coming from the sea who were suspected of carrying diseases. As an analogy to the present, young filmmakers today often find themselves in a similar kind of isolation-cut off from established film circles.
“Karantinata” serves as a space for creative expression and cultural exchange, bringing together representatives of different cultures, ethnicities, and religions. It encourages and promotes the creative visions of authors from all over the world, while also supporting the preservation of the authentic cultural and historical heritage of Varna.
