The three evening concerts within the symposium are among the most exciting highlights of the program with many outstanding performers and carefully curated repertoire. They not only complement and illustrate the themes of the academic presentations but also add more cultural layers to the rich picture of the traditions and development of Slavic music through the centuries. The program brings together composers from different eras and cultural contexts - from Glinka, Mussorgsky, Prokofiev and Shostakovich, through Wieniawski, Dvořák, Szymanowski and Janáček, to Chopin, Lipiński, Bacewicz, as well as the Bulgarian composers Stefan Dragostinov and Georgi Arnaudov. An interesting touch is the presence of the music of the Czech composer Josef Mysliveček, who takes us back to the refined style of late 18th-century Classicism. The works in the program span more than two centuries of musical history. World-renowned pianists such as Elisabeth Leonskaja, Milena Mollova and Viktoria Postnikova will take the stage, alongside outstanding representatives of the next generations. The concerts will include both solo performances and collaborations with established chamber formations such as the renowned Jerusalem Quartet, as well as specially formed ensembles bringing together leading musicians from Bulgaria and across Europe. There are several large-scale chamber masterpieces in the program, such as Glinka’s Grand Sextet, Stravinsky’s Septet, Shostakovich’s Piano Quintet in G minor, the premiere of a Piano Quintet by Georgi Arnaoudov, Janáček’s Suite for Sextet, and the iconic Pictures at an Exhibition by Mussorgsky, performed by Alexander Ghindin.
