Naval Museum in Varna
On December 5 (Friday) at 11:00 AM, the traditional annual exhibition "Many Paths to Maritime History" will be opened at the Naval Museum in Varna - a branch of the National Museum of Military History. It presents some of the latest acquisitions accepted into the Museum's collection in 2025, and special guests at the opening will be the donors who contributed to the preservation of maritime and naval history.
Among the exhibits in the exhibition, visitors will see various naval uniforms representing the period from the mid-20th century to the present day, as well as personal belongings from the professional service of naval officers, awards, documents and representative cold steel. Among the curious artifacts is a forged two-horned English anchor from the early 18th century of impressive dimensions, discovered on the seabed near Shabla. In terms of its functionality, the type to which it belongs is a new specimen, complementing the rich collection of anchors of the Naval Museum and will be on display in the outdoor exhibition. Part of the exhibition are rare documents, philatelic publications and curious photographs from various historical periods, including our most recent past, which is presented with a photo report from the reception of the rescue ship "Proteo" by the Bulgarian crew in Italy in 2004. Part of the evidence is also the steel silhouette of the second multifunctional modular patrol ship "Smeli" of the Naval Forces, which are one of the most constant and sympathetic donors to the Naval Museum.
Merchant shipping in the exhibition also has its special place through the presented authentic equipment and navigational instruments, including a course indicator, a boat thrower, the lantern from the ship "Batak", a sextant and other curious exhibits.
At the event, certificates will be awarded as a token of appreciation to all donors who show their commitment to the preservation of the Bulgarian naval heritage.
