Brahms wrote “German Requiem” as a message to the living, not a requiem for the dead, as all other requiems are. The text is not the Catholic requiem mass in Latin, but is composed of it with excerpts from the Bible. The fragments, which the composer chooses himself, are compiled in a very interesting way, as if he wanted to paint a picture like a mosaic with small pieces, colorful and bright Biblical messages. In the ingenious music, our everyday dramas, tragedies, joy, sorrow, hope are intertwined and all means are directed to the most important goal - consolation, reassurance and hope.
