13th - 15th of March 2025, 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Radio Varna art salon - small hall
The exhibition presents the history of bookbinding and scrapbooking on specially created panels. The event aims to introduce the visitors to the crafts of bookbinding and scrapbooking and to promote the work of Bulgarian craftsmen.
Visitors will be able to see exhibits from the collections of "Pencho Slaveykov" regional library as well as from private collections presenting the development of both the crafts. Contemporary Bulgarian artists will introduce their work – restored books, notebooks, albums, journals, planners, memory books, recipe books, and other handmade paper creations. The exhibits serve as proof of the craftsmanship of Bulgarian bookbinders and the creative talent of Bulgarian scrapbook artists.
All the visitors will be able to take a full-color exhibition book and connect directly with the artists presented at the exhibition should they wish to order custom scrapbook albums for themselves.
Live demonstrations will be held every day of the exhibition, led by renowned masters in both fields: Silvia Yonкова (master bookbinder) and Neli Ivancheva (scrapbook master). These demonstrations will bring the visitors closer to those centuries-old crafts, giving them the opportunity to understand the techniques.
Special "Varna Residents '25" album is a an initiative of the organizers of the event together with Varna State Archives. At the time of the exhibition a specially created leather-bound album will be available for visitors to leave their personal mark on paper by adding their personal photos, hand-writing messages, sharing some family memories, etc. The album will be kept in Varna State Archives for future generations thus becoming part of the history of Varna. The organisers intend on keeping the tradition during future editions of the event.
