Naval Museum, 2 "Primorski" Blvd.
On December 6th (Friday) at 11:00 am, the traditional annual exhibition "The Many Paths to Maritime History" will be opened at the Naval Museum. It will present the latest exhibits that entered the Museum's collection in 2024. Special guests at the opening will be donors who have contributed to the preservation of maritime and naval history.
Among the exhibits, visitors will see the only preserved part of the first Bulgarian seaplane, designed by Atanas Grigorov in 1923-1924, the propeller, preserved and handed over to the Museum by the designer's heirs. Art connoisseurs will be tempted to look through the eyes of French artist and war correspondent illustrator Durand Brazet, transporting themselves into the plot of his lithograph of the Gulf of Kavarna during the Crimean War (1853 – 1856). Lovers of underwater archeology and uncovering sea secrets will come across a real find from the seabed – a detail of the hull of a vessel from the 19th century. Evidence from recent history is part of the exhibition: a card sent personally by Capt. Georgi Georgiev as a greeting from the waters of the North Atlantic and Brenton Bay during his round-the-world voyage with the yacht "Kor Karoli", as well as the sailor's passport of perhaps the only Bulgarian citizen known to have been born on a ship. After the curious artefacts, there are also old fishing tackles, sailor uniforms, decorations, flags, photos and documents.
The exhibition will be showcased until 31.03.2025.
