PANDORA is a Danish company founded in 1982 in Copenhagen. To date, PANDORA’s handcrafted precious metal jewelry is distributed in 7,400 locations in more than 100 countries around the globe.
The jewelry giant recently announced the important news that within the next 5 years it will completely reduce the use of newly mined precious metals and will use entirely recycled gold and silver. Currently, 71% of the silver and gold used to make PANDORA jewelry is recycled. A complete transition to the use of recycled precious metals will drastically reduce carbon emissions and the amount of water used in newly mined jewelry, which will inevitably have a positive impact on the environment. PANDORA has also joined the Science Based Targets initiative – the world leader in the fight against climate change. Starting this year, the jewelry brand is also using 100% renewable electricity to produce its jewelry in its two manufacturing facilities in Thailand, and by 2025, the company will enjoy carbon neutrality in its entire work process.
PANDORA CEO Alexander Lacik makes another important clarification: “Silver and gold are precious metals that can be recycled many times without losing their quality. Precious metals mined centuries ago are just as good as newly mined ones and, like them, will not tarnish or become damaged. What we want is to help develop a more environmentally responsible way to make luxury jewelry at affordable prices, by preventing precious metals being thrown away in the trash, and instead using them to make our exquisite jewelry.”
