The monument was inaugurated on October 20, 2020. It was donated by the Consulate of the Republic of India to mark the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth.
It is located in the city garden next to the Varna City Art Gallery “Boris Georgiev.” The gallery’s patron, Boris Georgiev, painted a portrait of Gandhi and was the only artist permitted by Gandhi himself to do so.
The monument bears an inscription with one of the great humanist’s messages:
“There is no road to peace; peace is the road.”
