"Relics of Kaliakra" presents some of the most impressive archaeological discoveries made during the exploration of the medieval city over the last decade. The finds in the exhibition are part of the collection of the Municipal History Museum in Kavarna.
The exhibition will be hosted by the Archaeological Museum in Varna, and the opening will be on August 4 at 16:00 in the temporary exhibition hall on the first floor.
The central place is occupied by objects related to the Christian cult, which are convincing evidence of the key role of Kaliakra as one of the most important spiritual centers in the Balkans during the Middle Ages. Jewelry and clothing elements reveal unknown details of the personal life and splendor of the local aristocracy and illustrate the rise of the city as one of the Bulgarian capitals in the second half of the 14th century.
Among the valuable artifacts are coins from near and far lands and luxurious imported items that arrived in Kaliakra from distant parts of the Black Sea and Mediterranean regions - evidence of the economic prosperity, wealth of the residents and the numerous trade connections of the city.
The exhibition was realized according to the idea of the team of contemporary researchers of the fortress - Assoc. Prof. Dr. Boni Petrunova (National Museum of History), Dr. Filip Petrunov (NAIM at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences) and Penko Georgiev (Municipal Museum of History - Kavarna) and will remain in Varna until the end of November this year.
