The Seaside City Chosen by Digital Nomads

In recent years, Varna has firmly established itself as one of the most attractive destinations for digital nomads in Europe. The city combines affordable living costs, fast and reliable internet connectivity, a mild climate and a high quality of life - all that alongside clean beaches, green parks and rich cultural heritage.

Varna offers a rare balance between work and leisure. Here, you can start your day with a coffee by the sea, work from a modern co-working space, and in the afternoon you can have a walk in the Sea Garden or watch the sunset on the beach. Especially during the off-season, the city provides a calmer atmosphere, more space for long-term stays, and excellent conditions for focus and productivity.

From 1 January 2026, Bulgaria has officially adopted the euro as its national currency - making payments easier and more convenient for tourists and long-term visitors, without the need for frequent currency exchanges or additional fees when travelling to and from the country.

At the same time, Bulgaria has introduced new digital nomad visas, facilitating the conditions for professionals who wish to live and work remotely from Bulgaria's Maritime  capital. Visas shall be valid for a period of one year, with the option to extend for one additional year.

These two key improvements make Varna even more attractive to people from around the world seeking a flexible balance between professional rhythm and life by the sea.

Varna in Global Digital Nomad Rankings

The Varna region is part of the pilot European project EDIN (European Digital Nomads) and is ranked among suitable destinations for digital nomads by Nomads.com - one of the world’s largest platforms and communities for digital nomads, bringing together more than 37,000 professionals from around the globe. The platform provides up-to-date information on key factors in choosing a place to live and work - cost of living, internet speed, social environment, safety, air quality, and climate conditions. The rankings are updated in real time based on user ratings.

To date, Varna has been rated very highly on indicators such as the quality of the working environment, accessibility, safety, food safety, stability of the electricity grid and overall quality of life.

City Life by the Sea

Varna’s geographical location also makes it an excellent starting point for travel. With an international airport and convenient connections to other European cities, as well as easy access to neighbouring Romania and Turkey. This makes the city a strategic location for people who work remotely and love to travel.
