The International Varna Marathon is among the most anticipated sporting events in the sea capital and has established itself as one of the emblematic highlights in the city’s cultural and sports calendar. With ten editions behind it, the event attracts both professional athletes and running enthusiasts from Bulgaria and abroad each year.
The race is part of a marathon series united under the motto “Running as a way of life.” The start and finish are traditionally located at Nezavisimost Square, and the route reveals some of Varna’s most beautiful spots - passing through the central city area, along the seaside promenade, and through the Sea Garden.
Participants can choose between several distances suitable for both beginners and experienced runners. The program includes a 2 km city run, 10.5 km and 21 km courses with one lap, as well as the classic 42 km marathon distance, which is completed in two laps. In the shorter disciplines, participants of all ages are welcome, while only those who have turned 18 by race day are allowed to compete in the full marathon.
Combining sport, atmosphere, and scenic routes, Varna Marathon is not just a race, but a true experience for all participants and visitors to the city.
