Architecture, nature and location define a city's authentic spirit. While every city has its own story to tell, Varna's unique architectural landscape makes it a standout example.
Varna’s Sea Baths have been a city symbol since the early 1920s. Long before that, visitors were drawn to the coast, with sea-bathing guests arriving as early as the mid-19th century.
Nezavisimost Square is the heart of Varna, central to the city since 1878. Home to the Drama Theatre, it marks the beginning of the lively pedestrian zone between Shopen and Preslav streets.
At the turn of the 20th century, Preslav Street was Varna’s main thoroughfare. Today, it invites visitors to enjoy the romantic atmosphere of its charming old European architecture.
The Navy Club, built in the late 19th century was opened on December 10, 1900. It hosted Varna’s first post-Liberation New Year’s grand ball, marking the start of the new century.
The Sea Garden is Varna’s largest public park and the biggest landscaped park in the Balkans. Stretching along the Black Sea coast, it is a major tourist attraction and a national monument of landscape architecture.
Varna’s Central Post Office stands at the busy intersection of Vladislav Varnenchik and Saborni boulevards. Designed by architect Angel Momov, it was built over five years, with the foundation stone laid on April 18, 1930, and opening in 1935.
The former Chamber of Commerce and Stock Exchange, built 1929–1933 on the old Baruthane site, is Preslav Street’s landmark. Since 1952 it has housed the Navy Headquarters and is guarded.
One of the few preserved Ottoman-period houses in Varna, now housing the Chamber of Architects. Located in the city centre near Nezavisimost Square; renovated in 1972.
Bulgaria has about 200 km (125 mi) of coastline facing east on the Black Sea. The principal ports are Varna in the north and Burgas in the south. Varna Lighthouse "St. Nicholas" is located on Varna East Breakwater.
