Georgi Velchev Art Museum
"Shores" showcases a lesser-known aspect of Georgi Velchev’s seascapes. The Georgi Velchev Art Museum presents 12 works from its collection, created between 1936 and 1943. From October 2 to November 7, 2026, the Georgi Velchev Art Museum—a branch of the Boris Georgiev City Art Gallery in Varna—presents the exhibition "Shores." This exhibition features a selection of 12 works by the distinguished Bulgarian marine painter that are not part of the museum's permanent display. Drawn from the museum's collection, these works will be exhibited in the "Georgi Velchev Studio" hall, drawing attention to one of the key genres in the artist's body of work: the seascape.
All the works in the exhibition were created during Georgi Velchev’s mature Bulgarian period (1936–1943). Executed in oil—predominantly in a medium format—they depict the coastline around Sozopol and Kaliakra; these were locations the artist revisited frequently, and which became iconic settings in his art. Landscapes from Sozopol predominate in this exhibition, complemented by views of the cliffs around Kaliakra.
