The Alley of Cosmonauts, near the Pantheon in Varna’s Sea Garden, once followed a unique tradition: visiting Russian cosmonauts planted conifer trees, beginning with Yuri Gagarin on May 26, 1961. The silver fir planted by Gagarin has been dry for a long time, but one of the pine trees planted by visiting cosmonauts still stands. Among the names commemorated are Bulgarian cosmonauts Georgi Ivanov and Alexander Alexandrov.
