Scientists, researchers, innovators, technologists, and laboratory specialists are taking part with their own events in the 4th Varna Science Festival, which will be held from October 23 to 26 in Varna. Together with colleagues from across the country, they will meet the Varna audience and the city’s guests through individual workshops and presentations on various topics and for different age groups. The event is organized by the Beautiful Science Foundation in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science, the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Varna Municipality, and the Delta Planet Mall shopping center, which is hosting the festival.
For the first time, more than 70% of the festival’s indoor program will showcase science developed in Varna, highlighting the city’s connection to global research processes. In addition to one-hour sessions in different themed halls (Cosmos, Ocean, DNA, and Laboratory), visitors will be able to enjoy engaging demonstrations at the Discoverers Zone stands, featuring teams from most of Varna’s academic institutions. The festival will also feature two exhibitions that demonstrate the close relationship between science and art.
The four-day Varna Science Festival begins on October 23 with events from the School Program. Until October 19, teachers and school principals can register their classes for the diverse program designed for children and students from grades 1 to 12.
Students in the primary and lower secondary levels will be able to take part in workshops on nature conservation, healthy eating, robotics, and architecture. They will explore traditional Bulgarian embroidery through the lens of science, learn through fun stage experiments about the taste of chemistry and the beauty of mathematics, hear how scientists track bird migration and why it matters, discover how cinema became colorful, and even visit an active scientific laboratory in the city.
Older students from the upper secondary level will explore exciting opportunities to study space technologies right in Varna, be inspired by how their favorite technologies are applied in medicine and engineering, and gain insights to help them make informed career choices. Teachers will be introduced to free classroom resources. Students and their teachers will also have the chance to meet scientists at the festival stands, where they will find teams from the city’s universities and research institutes, as well as various natural science clubs.
They will also have the opportunity to visit two exhibitions and even get an autograph from a scientist–paleontologist who is also a paleo-artist, known for creating illustrations and book covers for Bulgarian and international authors. Admission to all events is free, but advance reservations are required. Visitors without reservations will be admitted only if seats are available.
