The illustrious history of the world’s most beloved ballet began in 1895 on the stage of the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg. Lev Ivanov’s innovative choreographic approach reimagined the swans through expressive arm movements, replacing the artificial wings that had previously been attached to the ballerinas' shoulders.
Marius Petipa choreographed the waltz, the mazurka, and the other dances for the palace scene. Building upon the vision of Yuri Grigorovich—another major choreographer of "Swan Lake"—Sergey Bobrov has introduced new elements to both the plot and the choreography.
