Slava submarine was manufactured in the former USSR and started operating on September the 27th 1959. It became Bulgarian in 1985.
It was a part of the Bulgarian Navy and bore the name “Leninski komsomol”. Name was changed in 1991 to “Slava” (meaning glory).
For more than 15 years military exercises have been held together with international naval forces.
Slava submarine last navigation was in 2010. It was donated to Varna municipality (Bulgarian Submariners Union initiative). Later Beloslav Glass foundation came up with the idea to turn the submarine into a tourist site. The submarine was relocated to Beloslav lake in 2019, near the Museum of glass.
