Musical Journey – France, Spain and Greece
A program full of inner references on many levels provides the second of the thematic concerts of the 7th edition of the International Symposium, part of Varna Summer festival. There will be Fantasy and Muses from Andalusia within the pieces by two of the four Spanish composers who relentlessly did their best to establish the Spanish National Composition School. Both of them though had studied in France (and first had met in Paris) – Manuel de Falla with Paul Dukas, and Joaquin Turina – with Vincent d’ Endy. Maurice Ravel, on his side, was born at the boarder of Spanish and French Basque provinces – his music represents France in this concert alongside with the quintet of his teacher Gabriel Faure, most influent of French composers linking the end of Romanticism with the beginning of the modern era. Also, we have Anthemes for solo violin by Pierre Boulez – one of the the most enigmatic and significant figures of European musical avant-garde. 50 years lay between Ravel (150 years from his birth) and Boulez (100 years) – be there to hear how music had developed. Last but not least – the music by Nikos Skalkottas, leading Greek composer of the 20th century who was strongly influenced by Schonberg. All these fantastic pieces will be performed by high-level instrumentalists from six countries.
