Orchestra, Chorus, and Ballet of the State Opera Varna

Through the tragic fate of its protagonist, the opera explores the impossibility of a connection between the vast, elemental realm of nature and the human world—a world shaped by technological progress, alienation from nature, and a consumerist drive. Dvořák’s work is more than just a romantic fairy tale about impossible love; it is a philosophical reflection on humanity and the world it seeks to subjugate.
